What is the Free ShippingKit Base? What is it for?

Everyone who has browsed our site for some time has certainly had such questions in mind. Here is some description of the ShippingKit Base module that needs to be installed prior to any other shipping add-on from ShippingKit Group.

We analyzed integration manuals of UPS, USPS, FedEx and DHL shipping services and figured out some commonality between them. E.g. UPS, USPS, FedEx and DHL webservices are available via SSL connection, they have an XML API, etc.

So, to avoid adding the same functions to all integration modules(e.g. shipping rates, track, ship, etc.) we included them into Free ShippingKit Base add-on. Basically, this module doesn't do anything. It just contains the common functions and classes, which are required by the rest add-ons from ShippingKit Group.
